All VGS graded scopes are internally and optically refurbished to like-new condition, including nitrogen processing where applicable. Our grading system below applies to cosmetics only and is not affected by the age of the scope. Therefore, older scopes are less likely to be found in the higher grades.

Every Vintagegunscope.com scope is guaranteed functional and to meet our grading criteria as labeled on each scope listing.  If not, you have seven days to return the undamaged scope to us for a full refund.  You simply pay return shipping. 

VGS Restored: Scopes are not subject to the grading system because they have been completely disassembled, stripped, finish prepped, refinished to exacting original standards, glass replaced or re-laminated, greased, re-sealed, and nitrogen processed. Modern glues and greases makes a VGS Restored scope better than factory new although all other parts are factory original. VGS Restored scopes are covered by our form and function guarantee.

New in Box:  New old stock, unused. A collectible scope for investment, display or mounting on a similarly perfect vintage gun.  May have a minor handling mark or two.

Mint:  Like new without box.  No handling marks can be found other than very minor finish flaws that may have happened at the factory prior to boxing. No ring marks.  Scope appears to have never been mounted.  A collectible scope for investment, display or mounting on a similarly perfect vintage gun.  May have a minor handling mark or two.

Near Mint in Box:  A matching boxed scope similar to a mint scope but one to three minor finish flaws may be found on close inspection. A collectible scope for investment, gun/trophy room display or mounting on a restored or perfect condition vintage gun.

Excellent with Box:  A matching boxed scope that has minor ring marks affecting the finish only with no damage to the tube and two or three additional blemishes from field use. With proper mounting to cover existing ring marks, these scopes are great to compliment an exceptional condition vintage rifle that will see field use.

Very Good:  Heavier ring marks than an Excellent condition scope and a larger number of other finish blemishes.

Good:  Obvious heavy ring marks, several finish flaws and including scratches, light denting, and minor, light corrosion.

Functional Fair:  Egregious cosmetic issues including dents and rust but functionally sound.
