From the Horse’s Mouth-Using Your Dual X Reticule as a Rangefinder

Since we are all under very unique circumstances across the country with COVID 19, I decided that one of the things I would do in the down time is to refresh myself on all of the Weaver catalogs that I have in the shop from 1933-1984.  In doing so, I am coming across all kinds of terrific vintage information from when early innovations were marketed.  I thought you all might enjoy seeing some of these things straight from the horse’s mouth; that is right from the early marketing materials.  We are fortunate to have many of these materials from the factory, many of which were “marked up” in the marketing process, likely from the companies marketing director.

This week, I’d like to share with you a piece that I found on Weaver’s Dual X reticule, now commonly referred to as a duplex reticle.   As you can see, it was advertised as an assist to quick field ranging for a deer sized target.  Later I’ll share with you the entrapments for their rangefinding reticle which had similar, but more simple application.

As you can see by the chart below, depending on the scope you have, you can quickly, and I might add pretty darned accurately estimate range.

With modest memory skills and some good interpolation, the Dual X reticule can be a handy assist in the field for estimating range.
